Small Business Mobile Marketing
Why A Small Business Should Consider Mobile Marketing To Increase Profits
Small Business Mobile Marketing
It's a fact… everyone has a mobile phone today. Not only that, but most people can't live comfortably without them. Studies show that most mobile device users keep their phones within arm's reach over 90 percent of waking hours.
Did you know that there are approximately 5 BILLION mobile subscribers across the world? Approximately 40% of U.S. mobile phone users have a smartphone and that number is expected to grow to approximately 53% by 2015 according to newsprint. Not only that, Americans are spending an average of three hours per day on the Internet from their mobile devices.
Are you beginning to see WHY Mobile Marketing is one of the most powerful ways to connect with your local prospects and customers? Mobilizing your business is no longer an option – it's MANDATORY. By mid 2014, analysts predict that more people will access the internet from their mobile devices than from their PC desktops!
So how does your business stay ahead of the curve and capitalize on this effective, cutting-edge, marketing method? Mobile marketing covers many different types of marketing techniques and strategies that help businesses increase profits and ROI. The main features and benefits of using mobile marketing are that it is a fast, effective, inexpensive, and cutting-edge marketing strategy, offering businesses a plethora of new ways to reach customers through the one thing they never leave home without: their technology. Whether your marketing campaign centers around a promoting a special deal, advertising a new product or service, informing customers of a business upgrade, or recruiting new members, there is no more effective way to reach the masses and a great response than to implement mobile marketing methods. If you are a business that is new to mobile marketing, you owe it to yourself to learn more.
Statistics show that mobile marketing campaigns can offer ten percent greater returns than any other form of marketing there is. That, alone, is worth looking into. Add the convenient features and the fantastic benefits and you have a marketing method that can't be ignored.
The two most important aspects of mobile marketing today are: mobile friendly websites and SMS text message marketing.
Let's take a closer look at both of these…
Mobile Friendly Websites
Did you know that 1/2 of all Internet searches for LOCAL products and services are performed from mobile devices? Imagine your potential customers using their cell phones to look for your type of product or service while “on the go”… Yes! They found YOUR business's website, but once they get to your website, they can't find your phone number… or your directions… or your menu/services… Of course, that information is probably on your website, but if it is not “mobile friendly,” it will not be clearly visible to mobile users.
Because of this, visitors will quickly leave your website. Why would they stay? They can't navigate your site to find what they need, so they move on to your competitors website. Studies show that more than 20% of local business searches are performed from mobile devices. That's potentially 20% of business that YOU could be missing out on! This number will only grow bigger as time goes on.
No matter what business niche you are in, times are tough these days when it comes to getting more customers and sales. So you cannot afford to miss out on ANY business. One simple way to prevent this is by having a mobile friendly website for your business.
Traditional websites are built to be viewed on a computer screen instead of a small mobile phone screen. So viewing a traditional website that has not been mobile optimized for a mobile phone is almost impossible. Not to mention that they take forever to load! In fact, most “non mobilized” websites don't even load at all on mobile devices.
Mobile friendly websites simply make it convenient for your customers and potential customers to connect with you. As a business owner, your main goal is to remove all obstacles when it comes to your business's “visibility.” With mobile friendly websites, “on the go” visitors can easily find and contact your business with one-click calling, one-click email, and instant directions. Again, this removes those “extra steps” that may be otherwise needed to contact your business.
SMS Text Message Marketing
I'm sure you won't find this surprising… but, studies show that most people today actually prefer to use their mobile devices to send text messages than to make phone calls. Text messaging is at an all-time high because it's quick, convenient, and effective. People can communicate with others in a “non-interrupting” manner. The other party can respond to the message at their convenience. Both parties know that they can simply send a quick message back and forth and have a full conversation.
The same applies to business communications and connecting with local consumers.
SMS text marketing has shown to be successful in most business models and has been utilized most for coupons, promotions, and communication.
In fact, 73% of consumers would like to receive special offers on their mobile devices - but they are not getting them. Studies show that offers made via SMS text marketing has consistently gotten response rates up to 20% – that's 10 times more than traditional advertising methods such as email, direct mail, and newspaper ads which usually get around a 2%-3% response rate.
Once you build a loyal list of mobile subscribers, you can start building a relationship and promoting to them on a regular basis.
The outcome? An affordable, fast, and easy way to connect with local customers and prospects that generally results in more customers, sales, and profits.
As new technologies are created, business owners are forced to keep up in order to keep their doors open – especially in these tough economic times.
SMS text message marketing allows you to connect with your target market by sending simple text messages. This is a “permission based program” that is perfect because your recipients have opted-in to receive your messages – meaning they WANT to receive them.
Recent studies show that 97% of text messages are read within minutes of receiving them! How powerful is that? This means that not only is text message marketing easy to do, but it is also extremely effective. No other form of marketing results in this type of deliverability. SMS text messaging is also highly trackable. It's very easy to track your campaigns and evaluate metrics to see how well they are performing. Again, not many other forms of marketing allow you to track their performance as closely as text message marketing.
SMS text message marketing is low-cost, which is perfect for small businesses. Setting up and running a text message campaign costs just a fraction of what other advertising methods such as Yellow page ads, newspaper ads, and TV ads cost.
And, the results obtained with text message marketing are generally much higher than traditional methods. This does depend on the type of business you have, what type of promotions you are sending, how well-targeted your mobile list is, and several other factors.
As long as everything is set-up well and you are taking good care of your list, your business can connect with a LOT of local consumers using text message marketing – resulting in higher profits.
So, how could SMS texting be useful to your business?
Mobile Marketing Coupons
Imagine being able to send out offers, coupons, and specials to your customers in order to receive repeat business? The great thing about text messaging is that it can be an unobtrusive, convenient, and personalized way of marketing and building a loyal customer-base.
This is why mobile marketing coupons are so popular. Mobile marketing coupons are paperless coupons sent through wireless technology. Statistics show that mobile coupon campaigns receive a significantly higher response rate than any other marketing method, sometimes yielding up to a seventy percent return! For that reason, more and more businesses today are starting to use mobile coupons to earn customer loyalty, expand their customer base, and increase the efficiency of their marketing portfolios.
When it comes to reaching customers quickly, efficiently, and conveniently, there is no method that compares to mobile marketing. Using mobile marketing coupons is a great way to grow your business, your customer base, and your marketing return rate.
What About Mobile Marketing With QR Codes?
Have you seen those little square barcodes around lately? They have been showing up in advertisements, posters, storefronts, and even product information material. They are called QR codes and were originally used as a manufacturing and inventory tool, but recently these codes started showing up in marketing material. Although somewhat of a leap, there were good reasons for it. Smart phones and mobile technology. Because a huge segment of the population now use smart phones with zealous intensity, QR codes have become somewhat of a hit in the world of APPs.
Here’s how QR codes work with a smart phone. The smart phone owner can download a QR code reader, activate that APP and then simply point their (camera) phone at a QR code which could be in a newspaper, on a poster, or in a store window. The reader sees the QR code and immediately opens up a browser on the smart phone that leads to a variety of additional information. This could be in the form of a text message, a webpage, a PDF file, or even a YouTube video. The idea is that those QR codes lead the user closer to a sale, an offer, or simply more information.
A business owner can use QR codes for marketing in many ways, limited only by their own creativity. It’s easy to create a QR code online as there are many free programs to do it. You just fill out some basic information – like for example the URL you want the QR code to redirect to, and then the software creates a QR code for you. You print that QR code up on a piece of paper or you put it in a print advertisement. Now when anybody sees that QR code and scans it, they will be brought to the URL you programmed inside of it.
You can learn a lot about ways to market with QR codes in your own city by just watching where they show up and how they are being used by other businesses.
One of the places I saw a QR code was inside a newsprint advertisement with a message directing the reader to scan the code to enter a contest online. Another place was on the front door of a small bakery business next to its closed sign. Since it was closed on Mondays, scanning the code directed passersby to a webpage that offered an apology to them because they were not aware the bakery would be closed on Mondays, and offered a special if the customer returned the following day. The cool thing about that is that they probably turn somewhat inconvenienced prospects into real customers that appreciated their efforts.
I saw QR codes in every vehicle on a used car lot that had high pedestrian traffic. Some of them linked to more detailed webpages, while others linked to short sales videos on Youtube describing the car in more detail in a very visual way.
Another way to market QR codes is if you’re in the real estate business and you attach a QR code to one of your real estate signs allowing the interested buyer to get more information about the property.
These are just some of the places that I’ve noticed QR code marketing recently, so I think there’s going to be a lot more marketing strategies coming from creative marketers in the near future.

It is as simple as sending a text message to your text message marketing list offering them a free appetizer, free dessert, or a free drink if they come in within the next few hours, and show the text message they received to your wait staff.
